Why choose Godfrey Sports?

At Godfrey, club kit is what we do best. Born and bred in Nottingham, UK, we have a long history of delivering quality, excellence, innovation and customer service, and every garment has been extensively tested to meet the demands of athletes at all levels.

So, why choose Godfrey for your next club kit order?

 Online Club Kit Page

Get in touch and we can set up a free online kit page to be the central reference point for your club kit. Choose all the items you’d like on the page and let us know how you’d like your kit to look and we’ll do the rest! If you need any ideas for what to have on your page, take a look at the Godfrey RowingGodfrey Bikewear or Godfrey Netball kit lists. Once set up, you can use your kit page as often or as infrequently as you need to, either for individual orders, or with an ordering window.

Club ordering windows

Tired of dealing with collating club orders in your spare time? We can do that for you. With an order window, everyone places their order individually before a pre-agreed cut off date, and we do the legwork – collate the order, take the payments, make the kit and post it out. All you have to do is hand the kit out!

No minimum orders

Order your club clothing whenever you like without having to wait for anyone else, all from your club kit page.

Guaranteed lead times

As our kit is produced here in Nottingham, we have complete control over the manufacturing process which means we can get your gear to you within 4-5 weeks.

Junior Rowing News put a few questions to the guys at Godfrey to discover a little bit more about the operation that they run…

What’s differentiates you from other kit manufacturers?

We have a unique and extensive history in rowing, with over 35 year’s worth of experience in the sport – a lot of the kit that rowers take for granted today was invented and developed for rowing in by Godfrey Sports, from some of the first Lycra AIOs to our iconic G2 Splash Jacket. All that knowledge and experience goes into every bit of kit we produce, not just in terms of the actual manufacturing process, but also in the design, tailoring and cutting-edge fabrics we use in some of our new kit.

We’re one of very few companies which still manufacture everything in the UK (in our own factory, in Nottingham), using local labour and where possible, locally produced fabrics, to provide very British custom and stock kit designs to the rowing community.

What sort of work, if any, are you doing within the junior rowing community? [Gives you a chance to sell to our audience, if that makes sense]

We work with a huge number of schools and clubs with junior sections, so hopefully plenty of juniors will be familiar with our kit! We get to speak to a lot of juniors at the events we attend throughout the year, and we’re always happy to listen to any feedback or design ideas – we regularly run a design competition with JIRR which has led to some brilliant designs which are available to buy through our website. Today’s junior rowers are the future of the sport, so it’s always good to hear ways in which we can improve kit for the future.

Why did you originally choose to manufacture rowing kit?

One of our founders, Judith Godfrey, had 4 brothers that all rowed, 3 of them for GB. Her brothers kept coming back from international competitions in the mid-to-late 1970’s saying that they saw this piece of kit, but if it did this, this and this as well, then it’d be perfect for rowing in. Judith and Glyn (the founders) then got to work on designing and making the kit for the Wilson brothers.

From the Wilson brothers taking the kit down to the clubs down by the Trent and getting out on the water in this new kit, interest in it started to grow and the idea for Godfrey Rowsports was born. Gradually, the company moved from Glyn and Judith’s front bedroom, to our first factory unit, less than a mile away from the boat clubs, here in Nottingham.

Which events can we expect to see Godfrey attending this summer?

We’re out and about at events most of the summer, and we’ll be at National Schools Regatta this weekend. After NSR, we head to the British Rowing Masters Championships, Henley Women’s Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta, and the National Junior Championships
