Henley Womens Regatta – WJ16 4+

One of the most exciting events of the year for junior women’s crews, competition in this category is fierce – only 8 crews will qualify, and with 6 out of the 7 finalists from National Schools Regatta racing, there is no room for error on the unforgiving Henley course.

Putney High School

Putney come into this event as favourites, after a stunning performance at National School Regatta, taking silver behind Enniskillen (who will not be racing at HWR). This was a first for the tideway based school and shows their massive improvement in this age group. I’m truly excited to see how Putney race, they’ve come together as a really strong four and will be the ones to watch this weekend.

Headington School

Bronze medalists at national schools in this category and gold medalists in the eight, Headington have proved they are formidable racers and are carrying on their schools dominance in junior women’s rowing. If they can gain some momentum from NSR it looks to be a great race between them and Putney.

Marlow Rowing Club
Marlow have proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the four after a win at Wallingford and 4th place at National Schools. This category is going to be very competitive, but marlow should be right up there and have a great chance to do well.

Yarm School
Yarm came out a relatively nowhere to perform extremely well at National Schools, and will come into this event with confidence after that result. While it will be tough to keep up with the likes of Headington and Putney, Yarm should perform well.

Others to mention are Lea RC and Henley, who were off the mark at National Schools but may be able to turn it around in this event, but it will tough.

Prediction: Headington or Putney for the win.
