2025 Dutch Women’s Crews to Watch

As the celebrations of the New Year fade and recovery is in process, we focus on which crews will make waves in 2025. Whether you’re a rowing fanatic or new to the sport, these Dutch crews will offer an inspirational display of persistence and ambition in the water. The crews will be eyeing key races such as the Heineken Race in March and the Varsity in April. As anticipation builds, which crews will rise to the occasion and perform the best?

First Years

The NK Indoorroeien (14th of December 2024) was the first chance to watch the newly formed first year’s race 2000m. For the light ladies’ first-year boat of four, Triton dominated with a time of 07:49,18, and Laga fell behind with an extra 13,70 seconds. The Lady’s team of four was won by Aegir with a time of 07:40,57. However,  Gyas and Laga closely followed them with only one to two seconds between them and Aegir

The Concept2 Ergometer Kampioenschappen on the 15th December was another chance to see the first years perform competitively for the first time. Saurus won the women’s four in a time of 07:39,5 followed closely by NjordSaurus has a strong set of new first years who proved very competent and persistent in this first race. With such promising starts, the first years seem dominant and confident as the new season approaches.

Women’s Four and Eight

As the 2025 rowing season approaches, Dutch women’s crews are prepared to make an impact at both national and international levels. Nereus are known for their pedigree and consistent successes, making them arguably the strongest on the water and a team to watch in 2025. With their intense training program and top coaching, they have produced many Olympian rowers and continuously prove their high status at competitions.

However, Laga’s and Orca’s women’s teams have improved recently, especially with Orca’s win at the Varsity in 2024 in the women’s four boat which will give them a lot of confidence for this year. While Laga has previously excelled in mainly the men’s categories, the women’s crews are on the rise and can be expected to improve in both the women’s four and eight this year.

Looking beyond these key teams, Skoll and Triton may also create an impact this year with talented individuals in their boats who may strengthen their crews.

Overview

With the Varsity and Heineken on the horizon, the competition will be strong and fierce, as each team will want to prove its skills at the beginning of the season. I expect Nereus to dominate in the women’s four and eight with strong performances from Laga and Orca. For the first years, it is uncertain, but so far, Triton and Saurus are set for a strong opening season!
