Even though the intermediate women’s eight (called Dames Gevorderde acht in Dutch) is not the most well-followed category of the Heineken Roeivierkamp (in comparison, for example, the women’s or men’s elite eight), it is not a race you should skip when spectating. In this category, all rising talents emerge. The athletes are already at or almost at the sub-elite level.

Besides this, it is broader with many interesting crews to watch. With no less than 17 crews, of which more than half are international entries, it is going to be a significant battle.

Thames Rowing Club

Thames Rowing Club enjoyed themselves last year so much that they have decided to return. With two boats entered, the club will make life for the Dutch crews really tough. With some new faces but some more experienced rowers holding the fort, a top-three place is almost guaranteed.

E. S. R. Theta

One of those crews that carry both more experienced rowers and rising talents is the eight from E. S. R. Theta. Some of the athletes were freshmen rowers last year, but they are now battling for the win with crewmates who went to the European Rowing Championships this summer. Noortje Wilms and Vera Sneijders, who sit in the six-seat and seven-seat respectively, hopefully can convey their experience and mentality to their crewmates.

A. S. R. Nereus

Competing in front of a partisan crowd and racing in an event that is organised by their own club, the women of A. S. R. Nereus will certainly not relinquish bragging rights on their home water easily. Their stellar reputation makes them an attractive club to join if you are moving to the Netherlands. This is noticeable in their entry for the intermediate women’s eight. Of the Dutch girls in the front three seats, two raced at the U19 World Rowing Championships and are accompanied by the Swiss Alpine Trevisan and the Czech Sofie Kubatova. Both of them make their debut in Dutch rowing but have done some racing for their national teams at the World Rowing Championships.

K. S. R. V. Njord

A boat that will likely finish in the top half of the category is the eight from the K. S. R. V. Njord. There are no notable names in this boat, but the general level of rowing is consistently high. With four women who won the development competition and more seniors on board, the athletes are well-suited to each other.

Prediction

Even though it is difficult to predict Dutch and international crews against each other, it is almost unimaginable that the ladies from the A. S. R. Nereus will accept any losses in this category. They may not dominate over every distance, but overall, they have a high chance of returning the trophy home.
