British Rowing’s highest award “

British Rowing Press Release

With a new year comes fresh hope; a vaccine is imminent and, we hope, that after crawling our way through the worst a British winter has to offer, we can emerge in the spring ready to once again embark upon the nation’s racing calendar.

British Rowing has spent the closing days of 2020 recognising those who have gone ‘above and beyond’ in service to the rowing community. Clubs, coaches and rowers have been recognised with a dizzying array of awards. Most notably, Andy Crawford and Fiona Dennis as recipients of the Medal of Honour, the organisation’s highest award. Mr Crawford is a constant presence at an astonishing number of events across the circuit, including Schools’ Head, BUCS Regatta, and Henley Royal. His contemporary, Mrs Dennis was once Director of British Rowing, having dedicated a large part of her professional career to young rowers’ welfare. You can find the full list of awards from BR here.

For those looking to take the next step in their rowing journey, British Rowing’s January initiative ‘Row31’ could be the perfect place to start. Pitched as a ‘global, interactive community,’ the initiative aims to encourage those who could be hesitant about entering into the world of rowing to take their first step. Those who enrol will be supported on a private Facebook group, alongside comprehensive indoor rowing instructional material.

International Rowing:

“World Rowing has identified 4th to 6th March 2021 as the new proposed dates for the staging of the Americas Olympic and Paralympic Continental Qualification Regatta.”

World Rowing Press Release

World Rowing has launched their new website as part of the re-branding intimated in the latter part of 2020 which will see ‘FISA’ replaced by ‘World Rowing’ for racing and governance purposes.

On the qualification circuit, provisional dates have been provided for the Americas Olympic and Paralympic Continental Qualification Regatta for Tokyo2020. The new proposal follows the event’s cancellation in November after the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic made international sports events almost impossible to stage. Confirmation of the new dates will be provided on the 11th January 2021.
