Sydney RC, AUS vs Claires Court School ‘A’

In what was a very strong start for both crews, Sydney managed to get the edge extending out to half a length by the end of temple island. Claires Court however did not let this phase them as they focused in and mounted a chargeback at Sydney who with every move they made were able to react, extending the lead to a length by halfway. Claires Court continued to push, giving everything they had to try to maintain contact with Sydney and managed to begin to edge back on Sydney. By the end of the enclosures however, it was clear to see that there was just not enough water left for Claire’s court, leaving Sydney to take the win by half a length.

Leander Club ‘B’ vs Hinksey Sculling School ‘A’

Both crews put up their best efforts in this fight for a spot in the quarter finals. The initial steering mishap from Hinksey Sculling School did not rattle these scullers even as Leander Club ‘B’ took the lead after Temple Island. Both boats were driving towards the enclosures and as Hinksey increased their rate and pushed forwards, Leander followed not too far behind. As both boats were responding to each other’s decisions, it was Hinksey who took the win and will be racing Sydney Rowing Club, Australia later this week.

Sir William Borlase Grammar School vs Tideway Scullers School

This race was the definition of a showdown. Off the start there was nothing in it as both crews rated and raced aggressively constantly in response of each other’s movements. As we approached halfway however, the differing crews race plans began to seep through. Whilst Borlase mounted the charge to extend the lead out to a length, Tideway was left with no more gears to go through which meant by the finish line, it was Borlase who will see it through to Friday’s racing.

Los Gatos RC, USA vs Marlow RC A

It will be all eyes on the course as NSR silver medalists meet the Los Gatos RC boys from across the pond in a battle of the nations. Marlow again proved dominant at Marlow Regatta securing a 12 second lead in the junior events. Like their british counterpart, Los Gatos achieved a silver at youth nationals however also hold a what is now rare victory over Windsor Boys School -of whom achieved the NSR gold. This is clearly indicative of the speed Los Gatos hold and hence are favourites for the win.

Hinksey Sculling School v Sydney Rowing Club

Both crews had close races against Leader B and Claires Court respectively, but their ability to turn the screw when it mattered will give them confidence going into the race. With very similar times between the crews, they’ll both need to put their best foot forward. I think it will be a very tight race between the two crews, but the long journey travelled by Sydney will give them an edge.

Sir William Borlase Grammar School vs Windsor Boys School

After a strong race today, Borlase are set to race the favourites to lift the trophy in Windsor Boys’ School. Time after time Windsor Boys School prove that they are the best of the best when it comes to schoolboy rowing and I’m sure the Borlase boys will be under no false impression as to the standard of racing they will need to bring to this next round. Borlase will need to be gutsy off the start, but Windsor Boys will have confidence in the speed of which will likely see them off into the weekend.
