Additional Information

This is the third year in a row that Abingdon have won the blue riband event at National Schools and this year was probably the most unexpected victory; their form through the winter left a lot to be desired but Dave Currie turned the crew around brilliantly. They always look so powerful in the summer and their performance at Wallingford set the bench-mark for their regatta season. They have a number of very quick ergo scores in the eight and I’m looking forward to seeing them at Henley; they usually peak for the PE and, while crews like St Edwards and Eton will undoubtedly be quicker too, I fancy Abingdon to put in a strong showing.

My Prediction

I think these boys can make the Sunday, particularly if they are handed a favourable draw. If they come up against Eton/St Edwards on the Saturday then we’re in for a cracker. If they were to win the Princess Elizabeth, it would be the third consecutive retention of the prestigious trophy; a new record.
