In simple terms, the past 12 months have been some of the most remarkable we will ever see. For JRN, the challenge has been maintaining the service we provide to the rowing world when our lifeblood – competition and racing – was taken from us for such a long period of time. Reflecting on the past year and in spite of everything that has happened, it is with a great degree of confidence we can say that this has been our strongest ever year.
JRN has become the definitive resource for rowing in the UK. Our commissioning editor, Will, expanded our coverage to student and senior competition whilst developing our core junior business to feature more events, more categories and more stories. Under the guidance of Ed, we have grown our expert panel of columnists to give the rowing community cutting-edge analysis and opinion from some of our sport’s leading minds – and we have new and exciting additions to come. The End of the Island, the brainchild of Fergus, came about to keep our audience engaged during the height of the COVID-19 crisis but has blossomed into a unique and editorially sound voice for all corners of the ecosystem. We’ve strengthened our relationships with brands and governing bodies, not least by becoming the Official Media Partner for British Rowing.
And we’re not even close to being finished. Our plans for next year are expansive and in line with the fierce ambition of our team – which we want to grow. And that is where you come in.
Do you want to be part of a young, entrepreneurial, creative group of like-minded people? Do you want to grow your reputation in our sport and pursue the stories and narratives that interest you the most? Do you want to drive positive change and collaborate with the largest names in rowing? Do you want to learn and develop alongside a team who put their people first and foremost? Do you want to be part of the largest independent rowing platform in Europe?
If any and all of the above apply to you, then we want you to join the team. We’re evolving our value proposition and intend to give each writer a unique category and/or age group to focus on, allowing you to become the expert and renowned voice for that segment. Our structure is also incredibly flexible – team members who join can expect to be offered opportunities right across our team and with our brand partners. Our leadership team is wholly comprised of people who arrived as writers and have ascended through the ranks to now run the day-to-day operations for JRN.
If you’d like to join the team for the 2021/2022 season, please complete the short Google form attached at the bottom of this article. If you have any questions, please reach out to us via our Instagram or Twitter feeds or send us an email at juniorrowingnews@gmail.com
