Bedford Autumn Small Boats Head will take place on Sunday the 9th of October across a 2000m stretch of the River Great Ouse. This event is a shorter distance than usual for head races and is therefore sure
to contain lots of very close racing and exciting results.
Norwich School Boat Club
Norwich School BC has entered two quads into this event after having a strong season in sculling last
year. They placed 9th in the J15 quad and 4th in the J15 double at the Peterborough Junior
Championships. This event is half the distance of Bedford, so it will be interesting to see if the crews
can improve and extend these results over a longer course.
Lea Rowing Club
Lea RC has put just one boat forward for this event in the hope of repeating last year’s successes.
They achieved an extremely impressive win in the J15 Double at the British Junior Rowing Championships.
Both the British Rowing Junior Championships and Bedford Head competed over the same distance, this shows that Lea will be a very hard crew to beat in this event albeit in a slightly different head race format.
Bedford School Boat Club
Bedford School BC has entered 3 boats for this event after a successful 21/22 season in both sweep
and sculling events. They reached the A final at Marlow Regatta in the J15 quad as well as finishing
7th in the J15 8+ at the National Schools Regatta. Both of these results show that Bedford School
cannot be written off when looking at the winners of this event.
Globe Rowing Club
Globe RC has also just entered one quad for this event and will also be looking to build upon last
season’s successes, these include 6th place at the British Junior Rowing Championships in the J15 Double against a very competitive field. Globe will hope to recreate these successes in the new season.
Preview
Despite a very strong entry list, I predict that Lea Rowing Club will win this event due to their very
impressive form last season.
