This shorter head race runs along the Great Ouse through the centre of Bedford and these Junior Men’s quads will be hoping to provide some Sunday entertainment for all those watching from the bank with their speed, style and steering down this 2km stretch.
Lea Rowing Club
The first boat of the day, this Lea Rowing Club crew will be looking to make their mark and show their quality at the first event of the year. Due to this the exact make-up of the crew entered being fairly unknown it leaves an element of mystery but with quality rowing in previous seasons and Elliot Watson stroking his J16 4x to a B Final victory at NSR last year, it will be a good first test for the crew in the new, older age group.
Peterborough City
This club from just north of the race venue will be hoping that their drive down is worth the trip and I think that they should be confident coming into the event. With some good races in the past from the boy’s programme and some quick results on the girl’s programme last season, the boys will be hoping to show their speed at this event and continue to develop this club’s growing reputation.
Bedford Modern School
Bedford Modern School will be racing on home water and hence they should be feeling very fired up to compete for the top to try and get the win on their water against the visiting crews. With not much sculling racing over the 2022 summer regatta season after competing in the eight, they will be hoping that all racing practice from last year plus a summer to prepare will provide them with the experience required to win the event.
Bedford School
Another club competing on home water this weekend is that of Bedford School. They should be feeling equally as competitive as the previously mentioned locals to try and get a win at the 2022 edition of the event. With the race also running directly past their boathouse around the halfway mark this should provide them with the needed encouragement and edge to go on and secure a strong time.
Prediction
With many of the crew entered not appearing as frequently as other clubs last season this event is one of the most unknown so far. I would predict Lea Rowing Club as favourites to take the win but with all that comes with a home advantage, keeping an eye out for Bedford Modern or Bedford School wouldn’t go a miss.
