Bedford Regatta – Open Junior 18 Quads Preview

The River Great Ouse will once again play host to 1200m of racing between some of the top junior clubs from across the country for the 158th Bedford Regatta. This year we see six crews entered into the J18 Quads in the hopes of coming away with the victory.

The Windsor Boys School Boat Club

The Windsor Boys School Boat Club has established itself as one of the top junior sculling programmes in the country with its undeniable record of success at major events, including eight wins in the Fawley Challenge Cup at Henley Royal. Many Windsor Boys alumni have gone on to represent the Great Britain team at international events, from U19 to Olympic level. They come into this event off the back of a successful weekend at Dorney Lake, finishing third at Wallingford Regatta in the J18 quads, and then following this up with a first and third place finish in the Championship 2x at the Junior Sculling Regatta the following day. Looking at their recent form in combination with the reputation of the club, it would be impossible to overlook Windsor Boys for the win at this event.

Great Marlow School Boat Club

Great Marlow School Boat Club are fast working their way up there with the big names in the junior circuit. Their alumni includes winners of Henley Royal Regatta and members of the senior GB rowing team. Their quad also comes into this event following a busy racing weekend at Wallingford regatta and the Junior Sculling Regatta, where they finished as eight and fourht respectively. These recent results put them in a good position to be in contention for the win in this event.

Predictions

Ultimately, any of the crews entered for this event are capable of winning and, as has been seen so many times in rowing, anything can happen in the race. This being said the form of the clubs mentioned at a national level highlights them to be the strongest contenders. For this reason, I am predicting The Windsor Boys School Boat Club to come away with the victory.
