British Rowing Indoor Championships 2024 – Women’s U23 Preview

This category is packed with rising stars, several of whom competed at BRIC last year. It will be exciting to see how their various successes on the water translate indoors this weekend.

Ellie Dash (Hartpury University)

The winner of this category last year returns to defend her title, and she certainly looks to be in a strong position to do so. Since her victory in 2023, Ellie has additionally had plenty of success on the water, winning the Rosie Mayglothing Trophy for Aspirational Double Sculls at Henley Women’s Regatta, and multiple medals at BUCS Regatta. She competed for England at the Home International Regatta in 2024, winning in the double and the quad. Ellie’s success looks to be continuing so far this season, placing as the fifth U23 at GB trials on the water and the fastest U23 erg time, which should stand her in good stead this weekend.

Ella Fullman and Rebekah Court (University of Bath)

These two women spent much of last season racing in a double together, winning silver at BUCS Regatta in the championship double and qualifying to race in The Stonor Challenge Trophy at Henley Royal Regatta. Now in her third year at Bath, Rebekah has had plenty of success with the programme. Ella joined from Wycliffe College, where she was a part of their nearly unbeatable junior women’s quad in 2022-2023, and competed for Team GB at the Coupe de la Jeneusse in her final season as a junior. Both athletes competed at BRIC in 2023, placing fourth and sixth, respectively, albeit with only three seconds separating them. This successful on-the-water partnership will definitely create some fierce competition on the ergo.

Claudia Rossington (University of Birmingham)

An alumni of both the University of Edinburgh and Headington School, Claudia was a finalist in The Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup as a junior in 2019. She was a mainstay of the consistently fast University of Edinburgh women’s eight until summer 2023, but she may have taken a step back from the sport last season. Despite this, her prior success means she should not be counted out this weekend.

Prediction

I think it will most likely be another win for Ellie Dash. However, the podium’s second and third steps look well-fought for.
