In its inaugural year as a combined event, the British Rowing Junior and Senior Championships will be kicking off in Nottingham this weekend. Although the women’s championship coxless four category only has three entries, there should be some exciting racing on display with these athletes who are at the top of their game.
Thames Rowing Club A and B
The first of two entries from the Putney Powerhouse, Thames Rowing Club A, has had an impressive season. This crew secured a victory in the championship coxless four at the Metropolitan Regatta; reaching the semi-final of the Avril Vellacott Cup at Henley Women’s Regatta and qualifying to race the Town Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. As they head to the National Watersports Centre, they are strong favourites to win, thanks to the significant advantage of having raced together for most of the season.
The Thames Rowing Club ‘B’ crew features a blend of athletes who recently competed at Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. This will undoubtedly be another formidable team, though they lack the same extensive time together as their club’s ‘A’ crew.
Cambridge University Boat Club
Rounding out the entries is the light blue contingent from Cambridge University Boat Club. This crew comprises a diverse mix of openweight and lightweight Boat Race champions. While they possess significant technical prowess, they are unlikely to match the crew cohesion of Thames Rowing Club A.
Predictions
Given their extensive time racing together, Thames Rowing Club A is the likely favourite to secure the championship title in this event.
