The British Rowing Junior and Senior Club championships will take place from the 19th to the 22nd of July at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. Crews will race over two kilometres and in the J18 women’s doubles there are a whopping 47 entries so there is bound to be some gruelling competition.
Tideway Scullers School
Tideway Scullers have entered two crews into this event. Although a Sculler’s Crew placed second in girls’ championship doubles at the National Schools’ Regatta, the crew for this event is completely different so it will be interesting to see if they can live up to their teammates’ high standards that have really set the bar for them. From one double, Robertson raced in the girl’s championship coxed fours and placed fourth in final B and Evered raced in the girl’s championship quads placing third in the B final. In the other double, Marshallsay also raced in the same quad alongside Noonan. Even though these crews are not TSS’s top boats – those being ones that made it through multiple days at NSR – I expect both of these doubles will place in the top 10 at this event.
Sir William Perkins’s School/ Wallingford Rowing Club
These two clubs have collaborated to enter two doubles into this event. Patient, who raced in the double that placed third at NSR has teamed up with McAdden, who rowed for Wallingford in the girl’s championship coxless pairs at the same regatta and placed second in the B final. This combination seems to be a promising one and will be one to look out for.
ChristChurch Rowing Club
ChristChurch has entered an identical crew to the one that placed sixth at NSR in the girl’s championship doubles of Tate and Lockey. This crew will be looking to push on during this event and beat some of the crews that previously surpassed them at NSR.
Bedford Rowing Club
Bedford has entered their double of Lowe and Beechener who placed fifth in the B final of girls’ championship doubles at NSR. Although slight underdogs considering their result at Nationals, perhaps they will have been working hard enough to reach the ranks of the top six at this event.
Rob Roy Boat Club
Rob Roy has entered two crews into the event, both of which raced at NSR a few weeks back. The double of Cotrel and Lestienne placed first in the B final and the Matthams/Whiting double placed fourth. I’m sure they will be aiming to make it into the A final after just missing out on it at National Schools’.
Predictions
I predict that the Wallingford and SWPs McAdden/Patient crew will place first, ChristChurch Rowing Club second and Rob Roy Boat Club Cotrel/Lestienne will come third.
