The British Rowing Junior Championships occurs over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of July for J18s this year, and with the recent spell of hot weather we have been having, it looks to be a hot weekend of racing at Holme-Pierrepoint this year.
Tideway Scullers
Two entries this year from TSS, and in theory should be similarly matched crews. TSS A features one sculler from the ‘C’ quad from HRR, and the other from the ‘B’ quad. Both of these scullers will be highly skilled, as one would need to be to come through highly competitive qualifying races. Both crews made it to the Wednesday, but no further. TSS-B features the bowman from the ‘A’ quad at HRR, who made it to the Thursday, before losing to Sydney Rowing Club, semi-finalists at Henley. The other sculler did not feature at Henley, however this does not mean this entry is written off, I expect them both to be highly competitive.
Notable Exceptions
Two of the strongest entries, Lea RC and Windsor Boys School are not competing this weekend due to selection for the England Team at The Home International Regatta. This is a shame for the BRJC, as this would have increased the excitement of racing, especially with two of the recently crowned Fawley champions proposed to race.
Calpe RC
Calpe, an entry from Gibraltar, should be competitive, especially having made the journey over. The crew won J14 quads back in 2014, and 4 years later they are back, to win a gold as a final chance to as juniors. Although few results to base it on, they cannot be ruled out.
Globe RC
A strong entry, Globe made it to the Thursday of Henley in the Fawley, and look to continue this bout of form at BRJC. This crew should be looking to medal, and were only knocked out by a strong Warrington crew, who will be looking to win this weekend.
Predictions:
1.TSS A
2.Globe
3.TSS B
