British Rowing Junior Championships 2018 – WJ16 2x

The last major regatta of the year, and for those who didn’t race at Henley arguably the highlight of the season, the British Rowing Junior Championships is held over two days with a time trial, semi finals and then finals. The WJ16 2x category has a strong entry which should lead to some good racing.

Sir William Perkins School
A strong entry here, from a club who are starting to develop themselves as a major force in junior women’s rowing, with the senior squad qualifying a quad into Henley this year. This particular crew has been together for some time now with the standout result being a win at the Junior Sculling Regatta. The lack of a 2x event at National Schools meant they rowed a 2- and placed a respectable 3rd in the B final. This crew will no doubt be looking to be in the medals this weekend and will have serious aspirations of winning it.

Reading RC
A crew that has been rowing together for a considerable time now, this Reading crew will want to be up at the top end of this event. This season they took silver from the Junior Sculling Regatta in what was a photo finish and won Weybridge Ladies Regatta earlier this year as well. This crew have also benefitted from a new weights programme at the club this year and I expect them to be amongst the front runners here.

Marlow RC
A crew who have been formed from a J16 4x from National Schools, Marlow always seem to produce crews capable of competing at the top end of their categories. The Marlow quad in question had a season long battle with Henley in the quad, loosing out at National Schools and Henley Women’s but winning the GB France trials and then winning their race against the French. Again, this crew should be very very strong and with an international vest, a serious contender here as well.

These are the crews who I would expect to make up the medal positions with the majority of the rest of crews seeming not to have raced at an major events this year. That being said, there are always crews who have the potential to surprise but I would expect these 3 boats to take the medals with the order being:
1. Marlow RC
2. Sir William Perkins BC
3. Reading RC
