In the final major event of the season many of the clubs will be aiming to finish with a medal. This event will be very competitive with about 15 crews and we expect to see the likes of Henley Rowing Club, Glasgow Academy and Tideway Scullers School competing for the top places.
Henley Rowing Club
This club has two crews entered and it will be interesting to see where they place after having a very successful season so far. The A crew is stroked by Phoebe Fletcher who raced in the WJ18 4- to earn a gold medal earlier this season at National Schools’ Regatta. This success was then replicated at Henley Women’s Regatta. It will be likely that they will be able to repeat this victory, even against some different competition at this regatta.
Glasgow Academy
This crew combination will be a strong competitor after coming runners up to Henley Rowing Club at Henley Women’s Regatta. The stroke seat, Natalie Miller, has had some strong success in sweep events most notably, as a J16 she made the GB v France team in the pair. This club saw the same result in the J16 pair at J16 GB trials this year and so it will be interesting to see whether the success in sweep events has continued to develop since the last competition.
Tideway Scullers School
This club has often had success in the major regattas of the year. At National Schools’ Regatta this year their championship eight came 5th in the A final which is impressive in such a competitive category. The bow girl of this eight (Ana Mavra) will move to the stroke seat to race this category and so it will be interesting to see whether she will have the same skills in different role within the boat.
The overall result will be down to the athletes’ performance on the day of the regatta but we expect to see Henley Rowing Club, Glasgow Academy and Tideway Scullers School competing for the top three medals with Henley Rowing Club likely to come out on top.
