British Rowing Junior Championships 2022 – Women’s Junior 18 Pairs Preview

With the hustle and bustle of Henley and Nat Schools over, the British Rowing Junior Championships may seem like an afterthought: however, given its position at the end of the regatta season, and just off the back of the latest round of GB trials, these results will offer a decisive rounding off of the work these young rowers have put in this year. Plus, with a large club presence, those who didn’t compete recently can offer a strong end to the year.

Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association

Aberdeen SRA won the Ch 2- event at Nat Schools by a healthy margin of thirteen seconds, which would stand them in good stead to be the favourites. Strong sweep skills amongst their cohort are fairly likely, though this crew isn’t the same as the winning one from NSR. Nonetheless, they are ones to watch for the top spot.

Nottingham and Union BC

With the same pair as at NSR, this crew certainly stands a chance of repeating their second place position. However, they would have to overturn Aberdeen’s enormous lead to have a shot at first place. They had a comfortable lead over the third place crew, though will have to have kept the pressure on in training throughout the recent heatwaves to replicate their NSR results.

Newark RC

This is also the same crew from NSR, who placed third comparatively more closely with Nottingham and Union. Although, whether they can climb higher on the podium could depend on the effect of the different Aberdeen SRA crew.

Prediction

Though the different Aberdeen crew perhaps makes their win a little less of a surety, the tremendous lead of their crewmates at NSR bodes well for a second win, however this cannot be said with certainty. I look forward to the performance Hinksey’s Myers and Ashley-Carter, who were decisive members of Hinksey’s Junior Women’s Eight, which narrowly missed out on silver at NSR by less than a second. Henley enter a younger J16 crew, which epistle their age saw victory at NSR only 10 seconds behind their ‘Champ’ counterparts.
