British Rowing Junior Championships – J18 4x-

British Rowing Junior Championships is back and back with some exciting racing this Sunday. With all the winter miles done (mostly on the erg) these J18 boys will come out in force this Sunday and hope to improve on their placings at national schools earlier in the year. With an outstanding total of 40 crews entered into this event I would expect some fascinating racing.

Tideway Scullers School – A

An outstanding club when it comes to junior rowing, and it shows that in this crew. As In many previews before I’m sure you’ll know who I am about to mention from this crew. Grabiel Obholzer Rose to fame getting 5:53.7 over 2k and setting a new British junior record, this will give the Scullers crew masses amount of power and wattage in the 2 seat this Sunday. Finn Regan and Albie Oliver was part of the winning the J16 4x at the GB France match in 2019. And lastly Matthew Hansen in the stroke seat is going to Yale University next season, this crew has some outstanding athletes and this really shows in their recent results. They had a 1st place at National Schools’, a 1st place at Met Regatta where they beat all senior Quads as well as their own junior category and a most recent win at Marlow Regatta in the J18 4x-.

Windsor Boys’ School – A

A well-renowned state school which has a lot of pedigree not only in this category but in this event. Windsor Boys’ has had an exceptional racing season so far but at the same an unlucky one. This crew itself has won at least once at this event, with Max Bird and Jacob Ioras getting a gold medal in the J15 2x back in 2019 when they rowed with Maidenhead  and Charlie Warren and Marcus Chute winning the J15 4x+ with Windsor Boys’. Clearly these boys have some racing experience at Nottingham which well and truly could give them the extra edge this Sunday.

Leander Club

Leander, reigning champions of the Fawley Challenge Cup. In nearly every season Leander always seem to produce a top high quality sculling crew. Coached by Jonathan Jackson, this Leander crew have been pretty successful so far this season, with a bronze at national schools. A lot of crews can improve quite massively over the gap within National Schools’ and Henley so this will be another crew to watch out for that 1st place. In the crew, Tristan Grainge, in the 2 seat, managed to get into the semi finals of the Fawley Challenge Cup with the Leander B crew when he was just a J16. More experience comes from the stroke man, Sergej, Sergej came 5th in the J15 2x at this event in 2019. Could this little extra of experience help Leander get a top spot this Sunday?

More crews that can’t be forgotten about would be the likes of Henley, Lea and Hartpury. These crews also have a lot of racing under their belt so could be counted as the underdogs for this weekend.

Prediction:

1st: Windsor Boys School
2nd: Tideway Scullers School
3rd: Leander Club
