British Rowing Junior Championships 2023 – Women’s Junior 16 Single Sculls Preview

On Saturday 15th of July in the British Rowing Junior Championships at Strathclyde country park, Motherwell, the Women’s junior 16 single sculls will face off in an epic showdown of skill, power and mental resilience to crown the champion. A gruelling 1900m time trial followed by 2000m finals will be a sure test of the athlete’s capabilities, and a riveting race to watch!

Notable entrants include G Riley rowing for Barn Elms RC who came 7th in the A final at National Schools Regatta in the Ch 1x category- a remarkable feat. She also competed at J18 level at Henley Women’s, but although she qualified she was knocked out in the first round. Also in the Ch 1x category at National Schools Regatta was J Donn rowing for Claire’s Court School who came 4th in the B final. Both these girls are putting the practice in, and will definitely have learnt a lot from rowing up age categories- making them intimidating opponents on the start line. Also to look out for is L Nickkho-Amiry from Glasgow Academy which is renowned for it’s impressive training programme that consistently makes podium spots, as well as K Proudlove and S Khan from Kingston RC both of whom were in the quad that came 2nd at National Schools Regatta, less than a second behind first place. This formidable duo puts Kingston RC in good stead for bringing a medal home.

Overall, I expect this to be a tight race, with everyone fighting tooth and nail for the top spot. I believe that the race is likely to end with a photo finish as the level of completion appears so high!
