Keeping this year’s racing on an exciting trajectory, the BUCS Head Women’s Championship Coxed Four promises to be a close race. With the noticeable absence of Oxford Brookes University BC and University of London BC this year, the door has been opened for other clubs and athletes to make a move for first place.
Imperial College London BC
Although results are scarce to find regarding if Imperial will enter a crew into the Women’s Championship Fours, it would be foolish to overlook their results at BUCS Head 2020, where they finished fourth in this very category. If past performances are anything to go by, it seems that Imperial might very well be hoping to repeat their past successes or even knock another crew out to claim one of the top three finishes.
Durham University BC
In the absence of rivals Newcastle, Durham are the home favourites in this category. As the club is still in its infancy under new head coach Rob Dauncey, BUCS Head will be a great first indicator of his success and the effectiveness of his programme. With their top pair of Natasha Morrice and Sophie Chumas in the coxless four, this crew may not be favourites to win, however with only four entries it’s all to play for.
Edinburgh University BC
It wouldn’t be BUCS Head without a fearsome women’s contingent from Edinburgh. Looking like they’re back to full force this season and under the watchful eye of coach John Higson, they will have their sights set on a medal in this category. Although they might spread themselves quite thin in the small boats division, you can guarantee that in such a small field this crew will be amongst those contending the win.
Prediction
I think that in the end, it will be a close competition for the top positions and all four entries have a chance. Glasgow, who I haven’t yet mentioned are always a threat, although on this occasion I can’t see them getting past their Scottish rivals. For the win, I’ll put my money on home favourites Durham.
