Since it’s a head race with different divisions, much like BUCS Regatta, there will be doubling up of crews from the lightweight quads to the lightweight coxless fours. With only three entries to the event this year, the competition will be fierce as each crew will be in with a shot of taking home silverware. Although these pocket rockets are tiny, the wind won’t slow them down and we can always be sure of close racing within these categories.
Surrey University BC
Surrey are well known for their sweep side of rowing and the ladies in the lightweight squad will be wanting to be on the winning podium. With strong results over the past year and the potential knowledge of the course if there is doubling up of events, these women will be able to put in a competitive time.
Imperial College London BC
While not a regular in lightweight rowing, the fact that a crew has been entered by IC is enough to warrant them being considered as a candidate for gold.
Predicitons
Overall, this will be a competitive race. While they haven’t been mentioned above, De Montfort University have produced quality crews in the past and will be discounted at one’s peril. I will go out on a limb and say Surrey will take the win but this is based on little other than results from BUCS Regatta last year. Wishing the best of luck, we will see some keen results from all crews!
