BUCS Head 2022 – Women’s Championship Quad Preview

The Tyne once again will see a large influx of students getting ready to race, and more importantly, aiming to win that precious BUCS medal. With plenty of categories to choose from, the championship events always contain strong competition. This prediction is based upon crews who raced over the past year at various regattas and head races, with the idea that they’ll be racing again this coming weekend in Newcastle.

Reading University BC

With focusing purely on sculling, Reading University have a strong and large squad to choose from. If they do attend it’ll be likely that more than one crew will be entered for this event along with some in the intermediate categories too. With successful campaigns at Fours Head on the Tideway, along with previous dominance at BUCS events they are certainly one of the favourites.

Bristol University BC

With a long distance to travel, Bristol ladies will be keen to put in a quick time and take home a medal. Over the past year, they have been competitive in both sweep and sculling with a busy squad, either way I’m sure they will put down a competitive time and really hold their own.

Durham University BC

Just like Newcastle, Durham will be racing on home waters. This local knowledge will offer a strong advantage especially in the predicted weather conditions. The university have a decent high performance programme and will be aiming to uphold that, gaining invaluable BUCS points.

Newcastle University BC

Just like Durham, Newcastle will be on home ground. With notable alumni such as Lola Anderson, the Newcastle women are a force to be reckoned with. If a quad is entered, it’ll be swift and wanting to make a big impact on their home turf.

Prediction

If these crews are entered, and I believe they will be, then a strong list will be put up when the draw is released. With competitive racing, it’ll be a nail-biting event to watch and wait for results. To conclude, I believe that Reading University will come home first, followed by Newcastle and Durham in third position. Regardless, this will be a good race to be a part of and I wish you all the best of luck and nice weather!
