BUCS Head 2023 – Women’s Intermediate Coxless Quads Preview

For this up coming BUCS Head race, these ladies in Intermediate Quads will be racing over a gruelling 5km on the Tyne. In total there are thirty crews racing, all from a mixture of universities such as Birmingham, Reading, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Aberdeen and more. Unfortunately, there are too many to cover in this preview, however they are all very strong quads from equally intense rowing programmes.

Newcastle University BC

First to be set off we have Newcastle University (Charlotte Rowley), closely followed by another Newcastle University (Martha Kemp). With the university having come second at Rutherford Head in Women’s Band Two Quads, we can only assume these crew will be highly competitive. Along with this, these ladies will be training on this stretch of the Tyne for every water session they have, giving the steerswomen a major advantage when it comes to manipulating the stream.

Others

Off in the next positions we have Bath University (Daisy Faithfull), Liverpool University (Ellie Atkinson) and University of St. Andrews (Isabel Rafalin). Followed by Surrey (Charlotte Harrison), Queen’s University Belfast (Meghan McDermott), Birmingham (Kathryn Mole) and Reading (Anna Turner).

These ladies will all be strong and either in the top or second quads for their university. It is key to remember that although they might not have raced in this 2022/23 season, they will have a solid block of training under their belts to help them down the course.

Prediction

Overall, I believe that Newcastle University will claim the top spots along with Bath. But I think it’ll be close along with Liverpool and St. Andrews. All together these ladies are part of good crews and will be aiming for good racing over this weekend. Best of luck Ladies!
