As always, the smaller boat classes at the National Schools’ Regatta are highly competitive. This year, as the last, the Championship Double Sculls will be raced on the Sunday, for the Fox Tankard. As is the norm, many of the athletes here will have already raced on the Saturday in the Championship Quad event, so it is expected that the results here will be largely similar to those seen the day before.
Windsor Boys School
Windsor are the current holders of the Fox Tankard, however I believe it to be highly unlikely that they will retain this, due to the fact that they have entered their 2 fastest scullers into the single event, along with a J16. This means that the weaker half of the quad will be competing here, although will be still a force to be reckoned with.
Maidenhead A and B
After these two crews secured silver and a bronze last year, it is certain that they will be looking to take the two top spots this year. After dominant performances in both SHORR and OJSH in the quad, as well as impressive results at trials and Munich Junior regatta, they will be looking to transfer this speed into the doubles this weekend.
Other contenders here should be Leander Club A, with such pedigree and speed shown this year, they should be well into contention, Tideway Scullers School will be looking to be competitive after multiple successes so far this year, and American School in London will be looking to improve on their 6th from last year.
As per last year, I expect the standings around the top to stay the same, however this year I think the final result will be: 1. Maidenhead A 2. Maidenhead B 3. Windsor Boys School
