Chester Long Distance Sculls 2019 – J164x

The rowing season is back underway and the Chester Long Distance Sculling Head provides schools and clubs the opportunity to see where they are and if their preseason training has been successful.

The J164x- is always a competitive event with the athletes really starting to get into the serious part of their school rowing careers.

The event features a number of smaller rowing clubs and schools and it should be a close event as they all look like they are of a similar standard.

Queen’s Park High School

Training on the River Dee, Queen’s Park High School will be looking to impress at their local head. They will hope to do one better on their second place finish in the event last year and get the fastest time down the course.

The rowing club has a long history and they will be looking to recreate some of the success that they have had in the past.

The Grange School

Grange School Rowing club will have to punch above their weight if they are to be victorious in this event. They are a small rowing club that has little opportunity to succeed at the national level so will make the most of the chance to win an event.

Northwich RC

Northwich Rowing Club is probably the most established club in this event. They either won or came second at every event that they entered last year and will be hoping to add the J16 4x- trophy to their cabinet.

They have recently built a new boathouse and will hope that the improved facilities corresponds to results on the water.

York City RC

York City Rowing Club are a strong club with a really good feel and vibe around them. They will hope that they can get a good result at this head to build some momentum for their season.

Not much is known about their crew but it is likely that they could be quite inexperienced and could be the first racing experience for some members.

It will be a close event with the relative inexperience of all crews playing a big part in the final outcome. If one of these crews takes on the course with the confidence that they can row with length and good technique, then they will be victorious.

The 5km course is brutal with mental strength and a strong crew bond being essential to getting a competitive time.
