Chester LDS will kick-start the new season with a 5000m head race on the River Dee; the course will no doubt be a challenge with all crews aiming to make a strong start to the season after the summer break. In the WJ16 4x- it will be a head-to-head between Trafford RC and Northwich RC.
Trafford RC
The Trafford quad go into this race having recently won bronze at the British Championships in July in the WJ15 4x+ division, this followed placing 5th in the C – final at National Schools’ Regatta in May. They will also hope to build on some strong head racing from last season including 6th place at the National Junior Sculling head in March.
Northwich RC
Northwich will be looking to improve on their results from last season in order to try to take the win in one of their local heads. Following 29th place in the time trial at National Schools’ Regatta and 37th at the National Sculling Head as a WJ15 4x+, Northwich could be hoping to make some progress at an event early in the season.
In this head-to head it looks likely Trafford could come out victorious given their rankings in previous races, however the new challenge of bow-steering a quad for these J16 girls could open the door for a closer race and it’s all to play for at the start of a new season.
