Chester Long Distance Sculls 2021 – WJun 2x

Commencing the rowing season for many, Chester Long Distance Sculls is hosted by Chester Rowing Club on the River Dee. The crews will race across the 5000m course between two divisions with the Junior Women’s Double sculls occurring in the first division of the day. Competing in this event are two crews from York City Rowing Club and Queen’s Park High School Boat Club respectively.

York City Rowing Club

Last season appeared to be one of the best yet for York City RC’s junior women, attending many of the top events of the rowing calendar. The crew looks to have some strong potential with at least one of the members having competed at Henley Women’s Regatta where they made it to the quarter-finals and at the British Rowing Junior Championships where they reached the A final only just missing out on a podium position. For the first time in the club’s history, they were able to qualify a quad into the Diamond Jubilee Event at Henley Royal Regatta showing the strength of their junior women’s squad and performance, who with no doubt will be looking to put down a confident race this weekend to kick off a good season.

Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club

The crew from Queen’s Park High School RC look to be prepared going into this weekend. They look to have had recent racing experience with the club competing at the British Rowing Junior Championships held last July. This may provide pivotal help this weekend as it was a good opportunity to gain some racing experience ahead of the 2021/22 season especially after what has been a long break from competitions especially these Long-Distance Scull style races.

Prediction

York were a surprising late entry to last season, showcasing speed consistently, I won’t be surprised if this is emulated in smaller boats, so helping them seize the victory from Queen’s Park, despite their home water advantage.
