The first head race of the season always brings with it a shock to the system. All these scullers will be used to the shorter distances from the summer regattas, meaning the 5km course in Chester will potentially be unwelcome for some. With five crews entering this event, it will be anyone’s for the taking.
King School Chester A+B
The boys from King’s Chester will be hoping to get their season off to a flying start after getting a 2nd at the Scullery and 3rd at National Schools’ Regatta in the octuple, bringing that success into this season.
York City
With a 6th place at Junior Champs in July, the boys from Yorkshire will be highly contested with crews from King’s Chester and Grange School (Hartford) for a medal this Sunday.
The Grange School (Hartford)
Coming 4th at the Scullery back in March and getting placed in the C final at National Schools in the octuple, the boys from Hartford have only 1 crew entered this weekend.
Queens Park High School
These boys have been rowing together for 18 months, being J14’s and having to row against the year above, I’m sure they will give the likes of Kings Chester and Grange School some good competition this Sunday on their home water.
Prediction
With King’s Chester having 2 crews dominating this event, I’m sure they will retain their many successes from last season into the start of the head race season.
