Chester Long Distance Sculls 2022 – Women’s Junior 15 Coxed Quads Preview

Chester Long Distance Sculls marks the beginning of Head Race season for many of the crews competing. Racing along the 5km course on the River Dee will provide some close timings with four out of the five clubs competing having a home advantage which is sure to make for some exciting racing.

Trentham Boat Club

This crew have been putting in strong performances over the course of the regatta season. With a 14th place finish at the Oarsport Sculling Head in March earlier this year, alongside a 4th place finish at JIRR, this crew appears to be an experienced boat. Recently, some of the athletes competed in a double, placing 13th, and a single which placed 27th at British Junior Championships. Trentham Boat Club are a hugely successful club, and this crew will be racing to maintain this reputation on Sunday.

Queen’s Park High School

Starting second is the A quad from Queen’s Park High School. With half the number of race points as Trentham, this crew will arguably have a tough race ahead. The WJ15 squad from Queen’s Park High have produced a variety of results in various events across the past season having their first national appearance at the Oarsport Scullery where their octo placed 23rd. With the home advantage for the weekend, this crew look to be fighting for a medal position.

Royal Chester RC

Starting just behind QPH are the crew from Royal Chester. This crew were not seen at the national events last season until the British Rowing Junior Championships in July. The quad then went on to place 15th in the time trials and 2nd in the C final in what was a competitive field. As another boat with the home advantage, the quad will have high hopes for this weekend and be looking to put out a strong performance.

Prediction

Also racing are Grosvenor RC and Queen’s Park High B.

I believe there will be close racing, but my top three prediction is:

1st Trentham

2nd Royal Chester

3rd Queens Park High
