As the weather starts to improve from head season we are looking towards some exciting racing at this weekends regatta. As we are still at the start of the season many of the smaller crews haven’t had much practice yet so it’ll be a good opportunity for all to see what they are up against in time for National School’s Regatta.
Yarm School
The girls at Yarm seem to have a strong squad with many double entries throughout the year with multiple in one category. They have produced a strong set of results including a win at Tee small boats head and at York spring regatta. The squad looks to be a strong one with two girls coming second at the GB final trials in a pair, therefore showing the squad is right up there with some of the strongest in the country. Racing at Durham this weekend will be a good chance to put their hard work in to practice and see how they compare themselves to others however I suspect these girls will produce excellent results.
Durham Amateur Rowing Club
Competing on home turf the girls should be right in their comfort zone which will hopefully set them up for success. The squad have competed at various events throughout the year but with no significant results. it will be interesting to see how they race this weekend on the course as they will know it well.
Queen Elizabeth High School
There are few results from these girls and it seems they haven’t attended many races this year. The School has strong connections with the river so should stand a good chance this weekend. Their first race is against Durham ARC so it will be a oppourtubity for both to put their skills to the test and push themselves over the 700m stretch.
Tyne United
Tyne has entered two doubles this year into the race, this will be boosting the competition between the crew’s to see who comes out on top. The girls have competed at a couple of event this year in doubles with the most notable being second at Tee small boats head. Both boats are seemingly strong as should put up a good performance this weekend in both boats.
Cambois Amateur Rowing Club
Having competed at a number of events this year the girls will have some experience behind them regarding racing together. But as yet there have been no significant wins or placements. The opportunity to race should be a good one and provide the crew with further experience together before National School’s Regatta is upon us.
Predictions:
1st – Yarm School
2nd – Tyne United
3rd – Durham Amateur Rowing Club
