Durham Long Distance Sculls 2018 – Junior Men’s Preview

We’re finally here. The end of the Northern Rowing Long Distance Sculling Series. The (supposedly) six week-long series terminates this year in Durham, home of the Henley of the North. This means we shall be finishing with an 1800m dash, with a notoriously difficult bridge to deal with halfway, it doesn’t help being on a corner! With senior trials weekend, there is a slightly reduced entry, however still a large entry for the LDS, along with two divisions for the SBH.

J17 4x

Only one entry, from QEHS, and should be a strong quad, with a good season last year. Although no completion, should be fun to be chasing down the senior quads for fastest boat of the day.

J16 4x

Three entries, all from home crews, St Leonards, Durham ARC, Durham School. Out of the three, the DARC crew look to be the fastest. School have put their top athletes in the doubles, and SLS don’t appear to be having a strong year, but after a win last week at South Hylton, the race is open for the taking.

J18 2x

Two entries here, one from Tyne, anther from QEHS. QEHS are lacking their top athlete, hes in the single, and this looks like a top double from Tyne, therefore I’m predicting a Tyne win.

J17 2x

Two entries, DARC and QEHS. This is a second rate boat from QEHS, so with a Durham crew on their home river it should be a win for DARC.

J16 2x

Two Durham School boats and one from SLS. A top showing from DUS, and not from SLS, so should be a win for School.

J18 1x

Only one entry, Andersen from QEHS. After a blistering 2kr24 time, he should be looking to put a stamp on this event.

J17 1x

Two entries, DARC and Talkin Tarn. Morris came 6th at BRJC last year, and has a home advantage, so should be a win for Morris.

J16 1x

Three entries and should be a win from Norman from TTA, he’s had a good season so far, and has been improving steadily.
