Henley Royal Regatta 2019 – Fawley Challenge Cup: Day 3 Review and Saturday Preview

Friday is moving towards the sharp end of the Regatta, and as such, the intensity of the racing is going up. Friday saw four races in the Fawley Challenge Cup, and tomorrow is semi finals day.

The first race of the day saw Claires Court take on the Norwegians from Christiania. This was a race that Claires Court took control of from the outset, which allowed them to drop their rate marginally, as they absorbed and covered any Christiania surge, and took the win by 1.25 lengths. They will go on to face Henley RC ‘A’ tomorrow in a race that puts the National Schools winners up against the bronze medallists from that same event.

The other race in the second half of the draw was the inter club battle between Henley ‘A’ and Henley ‘B’. This was a race that went as the crew ranking suggested, with the A crew running out comfortable winners to set up the aforementioned race with Claires Court.

The other half of the draw yielded a routine victory for Leander ‘A’ over Tideway Scullers ‘C’, who have done well to be the last scullers crew standing in the Fawley. This was a race that was nothing short of a procession, allowing Leander to paddle their way into Saturday’s racing.

The final Fawley race of the day saw Leander B edge away from the Lea, eventually taking the win in this race, by a margin that we didn’t note down because we rushed off to have a team curry. Sorry.
