Fours head is one of if not the premier event on the tideway. It is a race that attracts crews from all around the country and is a badge of honour for any club that competes and does well. It is a race where J18’s can compete against the best crews in the country from the top performing universities and clubs, but it also allows the smaller clubs to duel it out with the bigger clubs. The racing is always fast, hard and brutal and there will be some impressive times coming out this year, especially after the missed opportunity of last year.
London Rowing Club – LRC (A) C Young – (156):
London Rowing Club has seen a resurgence in the past couple of months and personally having seen them on the river training, London Rowing Club has become a beast to reckon with, with LRC (I), contains Nathan O Reilly who was selected to compete in the Winfield Silver Sculls, this crew will certainly be something to reckon with. However it should be said that the entire squad is looking strong on and off the water and the other crews , LRC (L) H Smallman (159) and LRC (M) J Bannenburg (176); will all be crews to look out for this fours head, especially seeing as this is literally their home water.
Tideway Sculling School – TSS (N) K Brown – (150):
Tideway Sculling School School is a club steeped in tradition and high level results, their juniors having won the Fawley challenge cup, and entering a composite crew that got the fastest time in 2019, there is a lot of anticipation behind these crews, which includes another entry’s; and TSS (J) T Richards (161). With the tideway being their home, and having seen them training on the waters they should be comfortable all the way down the course and will surely put up a strong fight all the way down the course.
Molesey Boat Club – MBC (H) A Giambrone – (151):
Molesey Boat Club is one that is famous for breeding Olympians and Henley winning crews, having won the Wyfold Challenge Cup back in 2019, they certainly have a strong pedigree from the Breakfast club to the High Performance Squad. I expect this crew to do very well and will certainly be at the tip of the spear when in comes to the results and this crew will have a lot of live up to this season, doing well here could set another mega season for Molesey’s 4x-
Other Crews:
Some notable mentions is UTC, or Upper Thames Rowing Club; who have entered UTC (A) S Griffths (153)and UTC (G) S Diserens (154), who are club that are notable for producing some impressive crews over the years and Vesta Rowing Club VRC (D) M Bladen (155), who will be competing on their home turf and will provide a good fight all the way down. A Final notable mention is Hinksey Rowing Club, who exploded onto the scene this year and have spent a lot of the past year punching above their weight and HIN (D) N Adam (163), will be a boat to look out for
My Predictions are:
- London Rowing Club – LRC (A) C Young – (156)
- Molesey Boat Club – MBC (H) A Giambrone – (151)
- Tideway Sculling School – TSS (N) K Brown – (150)
