The new racing season is now well and truly underway and Fours Head is one of the most vital races in the head race calendar. It comes at an important time, all crews will be settled into their new training plan and the crews with the most effective training plan will come out on top. With a long race ahead of them, all crews in this category will be aware of the challenge it represents, it will be interesting to see who effectively rises to it.
London Rowing Club – O’Reilly
London, an ever growing high performance club which brings out the best in their athletes. This crew of Nathan O’Reilly, Borja Portos, James Sanders and Sean Blaketaking on the Tideway this week will be sure out to impress as they are the first to start off in their category this weekend. A mention goes to Nathan O’Reilly who raced in the wingfield sculls and came a respectable 6th place, coming up against the likes of Graeme Thomas and the finest Scullers of the UK. This will clearly be a crew to watch out for as a whole to take the win in this event.
Molesey Boat Club – Levi
Moseley, mainly renowned for their sweep success in the 8s and the 4s. We see a quad entered into this weekend. The crew of Ed Fuller, Jamie Leppard, Alex Levi and E.Achtner take on the gruelling course of the Tideway. As you have probably seen the name of Ed Fuller has popped up in many of our junior articles in the past. This is mainly because of the sheer success he has had as a junior, for instance, when he snatched victory by over 10 seconds in the NSR 2021 Men’s singles. With the sculling prowess of Ed in the boat I wouldn’t be surprised if they will be up for contention for a top spot.
Agecroft Rowing Club – Gallie
Agecroft, based at Salford quays in Manchester. Agecroft has always been known for their decent performances in the Thames Challenge Cup at Henley. They have seem to find a new combination for them to revert to sculling for fours head this weekend. Recent successes from this crew include a win at their Home head race which made them the fastest quad of the day. Coming back off a 4th place at Tokyo these athletes will be sure aspiring to their fellow club mate Graeme Thomas.
Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club – Barnett
Hollingworth Lake, based in Littleborough, Rochdale. The crew of Alex barnett, Harry Heywood, Danny Howorth and Tim Booth will have to be extra vigilant this weekend as they venture onto the Tideway against some top class crews. Their Lake is a very picturesque place and holds a very popular regatta for clubs up at the north of the country. This crew recently got a 2nd place at the Dee autumn head in Chester, this means that this crew won’t be no stranger to racing over a long distance and will be ready to shock the likes of London and Moseley.
Prediction:
The likes of O’Reilly from London and Fuller of Moseley will be athletes to look out for and how they lead their crews down the Tideway. The northern crews of Agecroft and Hollingworth Lake may give London and Moseley a unexpected fright as they chase them down the gruelling 6.7km course. This is what I would expect this weekend:
1st: Molesey Boat Club
2nd: London Rowing Club
3rd: Agecroft Rowing Club
4th: Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club
