Head Season is well and truly underway with Boston trials last weekend and now the prestigious fours head this weekend. 11 Junior coxless fours take to the Tideway this weekend to see where they stand against their arch rivals in the early season.
King’s College School – Monaghan
KCS, back for the new season coming from an exceptional 2021 season with the Champ 8 getting a close knit sliver medal at the National Schools. KCS have been pretty quiet this season already so it would be pretty tough to make a judgement on this crew, but athletes returning from the last seasons 1st 8 will be no stranger to racing at a high level.
St Paul’s School – Thorogood
Similar to KCS, St Paul’s have been pretty quiet in the early season, but will have some exceptional rowers that were in the lower 6th last season. Last season Paul’s got into the finals of Henley Royal Regatta with their new Empacher X87. With the great expense of this purchase last season they will be looking to make every penny worth it this season.
Walton Rowing Club – Rushworth
Walton, an admirable rowing club which has bought out some top GB athletes over the years and these 4 boys could have potential to add more GB athletes to their roster. Unlike KCS and St Paul’s Walton have had some racing under their belt already this season. These lads raced at Kingston small boats head, which they achieved a 1st place beating the likes of Eton College.
Prediction:
With barely any of these crews racing this season it’s hard to make a decent enough prediction, but basing it off club pedigree this is what I’d expect this weekend:
1st: St Paul’s School
2nd: King’s College School
3rd: Walton Rowing Club
