As a result of very sparse information regarding previous race results, the Women’s Academic Quad could be a somewhat enigmatic division for the six crews entered this year. With crews from Liverpool University, Bristol University, Southampton University, and three crews from Reading University, the small field of competition may provide all the entrants with a shot at winning.
Reading University
Reading’s crew containing of Atkinson and Collins has gained momentum from BUCS earlier this year, with the pair placing fourth in the C final for the Intermediate Double. This may very well be a crew to watch.
Much like the previous Reading University boat, their ‘H’ crew also gained experience racing earlier this year at BUCS. Fellow crewmates Poppy Hart and Beth Coleman consisted of half of the Women’s Beginner 2 Quad, placing 17th in their time trial and third in the C final, overall ranking them 15th. With the summer period to gain experience and gel with their fellow crewmates, this Reading crew may also feature in the race.
Southampton University (E)
Although little information can be found about the athletes, it may be of worth to acknowledge Shannon placing fourth in the Women’s Academic Eights earlier this year at Metropolitan Regatta. Although this may only be the results of one athlete in this four, it might be indicative of the rest of the crew, meaning that it’s worth keeping an eye out for Southampton as they go down the course.
Prediction
With little background information it is difficult to provide any real insight or predications about the result of this division. However, watching a division with no immediate clear leaders does allow for the chance to be surprised and fully engaged with the race, so this could be a silver lining in disguise!
