Fours Head of the River 2018 – Women’s Junior Championship Quads

This 6.8km race extends from Mortlake to Putney on the Tideway section of the River Thames and includes some bends that will be difficult to steer and so the outcome of the women’s quad event will be dependent on the crews steering skills in addition to their rowing experiences and abilities. The likes of Latymer Upper School, Sir William Perkin’s School, Henley Rowing Club, Maidenhead Rowing Club, Tideway Scullers School, Marlow, Walton and Shiplake College will be competing.

Latymer Upper School

Latymer Upper School has two crews entered into this event. Both crews will have some good experience in them with Mia Anderson and Cecile Ramin rowing. Mia Anderson’s successes have come from racing in the Latymer Upper A crew in the Championship Quadruple Sculls at the National Schools’ Regatta last year to achieve a silver medal. The depth of strength in this club is evident as Cecile Ramin who raced the B crew at the National Schools’ Regatta last year made the B final and finished in 2nd place.

Henley Rowing Club

There have been some strong performances in the J16 squad at Henley Rowing Club last year. Amber Weller will be racing in this event after having raced in the J16 B quad at the National Schools’ Regatta and coming sixth in the A final of this event so there is some good rowing experience that can be translated into this race. Good sculling skills were also shown in the new senior squad during a win in the J16 quad at Henley Women’s Regatta last year.

Tideway Scullers School

This club has seen some strong results in the quadruple scull category over the last summer season. Jessie Goodall stroked the Championship 4x- to 4th place in the A final at National Schools and so this experience in finding a good rhythm will help them to reach the top places as it is a vital skill over this 6.8km course.

Marlow

The J16 squad had some strong performances over the past year. Eve Lombardo stroked the J16 quad through National Schools Regatta and Henley Womens Regatta. This quad developed their sculling skills to move from a 4th place to 2nd, respectively. These four athletes then represented GB in the J16 squad. These skills should be translated across into this race to bring the crew some good racing experience.

Due to previous successes at Latymer Upper School, Henley Rowing Club, Tideway Scullers School and Marlow Rowing Club we expect to see this racing experience help these clubs to battle for the top positions in this event.
