A massive set of results for the third assessment with the senior heavyweight ladies in sculling. A total of 14 women raced the time trial with two extra who ‘did not start.’ To be able to race in this time trial, seniors must complete a five kilometre ergo test which is club-based, with a cut-off of 18:15. Some interesting results with key members of the GBRT competing this time round, and some exciting races to come.
Hannah Scott
First past the post we see Hannah Scott of Bann RC. Hannah raced as part of the women’s quad at the Tokyo Olympics, and will be keen to see heavily competitive racing over this summer. She has started this campaign off to a flying start and I’m sure she will only improve on this as the season goes.
Lola Anderson
Coming in second by a close few seconds is Lola Anderson representing Leander Club. After a very exciting 20/21 season winning Henley Royal Regatta in her single along with the Wingfield Sculls and a plethora of other regattas, Lola will be keen to build on this and secure a spot on the GB team for this coming summer.
Katy Wilkinson-Feller
Katy Wilkinson-Feller of Tideway Scullers School came in third place. Although she did not race at the November trials, this could have been due to injury. Nevertheless, she raced at Boston in February and put down a stellar performance. With previous exciting and high profile wins under her belt, Katy will be wanting to improve and gain a GB vest.
Saskia Budgett
A strong fourth place for Saskia Budgett also of Tideway Scullers School, who has recently come back from the Tokyo Olympics where she travelled as a spare. Saskia will be aiming for a crew position and will be wanting to build on her times, with this strong spot I’m sure she will see crew selection for the Europeans and World Senior Championships.
Others
Other big names and notable results include Jessica Leyden of Leander club coming in fifth. Lucy Glover representing both Edinburgh University and Warrington coming in sixth, having recently also come back from the Tokyo Olympics with her crew-mate Hannah Scott from the Women’s Quad. In seventh, we see Kyra Edwards from Nottingham Rowing club, having missed out on last year’s regatta season due to injury, making her way back into the pack.
Summary
Extremely close racing between all the ladies who entered, hinting at an exciting set of trials and summer racing to come. Plenty of choice with crew selection, and plenty of time for these ladies to build on their positions, which I am definite they will all be aiming to do so. We see big names in the ‘did not start’ list such as Georgina Brayshaw and we can only hope she had a mild illness or injury on the day and will be back to racing soon. I can be sure in saying that we are all intrigued to see what results come out of the next set of trials. Good luck for then ladies!
