Great Marlow School Boat Club

Great Marlow School is based in the rowing town of Marlow on the River Thames and 8 miles downstream from Henley. It is one of three clubs training on the Marlow- Cookham stretch of 6.44km. This stretch is also shared is Sir William Borlase and Royal Grammar School High Wycombe.
Whilst being a reasonably small club GMSBC have produced rowers such as Sir Steve Redgrave, one of Great Britain’s greatest Olympians.

Over recent years Great Marlow Boat club has gone from strength to strength with crews being showcased at international levels and triumphant at National levels too. They compete in a vast
range of boat classes sweep and scull, previously mainly sweep rowing. However, over the last few years, GMS have seen lots of sculling crews compete to the same high standards. Recently crews have
won at Home Internationals and national competitions such as British Championships and National Schools regatta. At BRIC 2019 Great Marlow won 5 medals in the individual categories for juniors. At the National Indoor Junior Championships run by London Youth Rowing, they won the junior girls 2k relay by 15 seconds and one individual medal.

Behind this success stands the team of dedicated coaches, all endeavouring to get the best out of their rowers between the ages of 11 and 18. The site boats are stored on is not the most glamorous, however, the fleet of boats is exceptionally desirable. The fleet consists of multiple Hudson eights and quads with new boats being added all the time. Land training takes place at the state of the art gym with professional equipment a few minutes cycle from the river.

Great Marlow Schools atmosphere is definitely what sets it apart from other places, the friendships made, fun had, success achieved are just a few of the reasons that make GMS what it is.
