A relatively small entry of 4 crews, this race should be good preparation for the upcoming Schools Head and Women’s Head.
Thames RC
First off is Thames RC, who have a relatively strong junior setup, this crew having placed 11th most recently in the WJ16 quad at Hampton Head. While this is no standout result, these girls have the advantage of racing on home water and with the tideway, this should be valuable.
Putney High School
While Putney’s J16s haven’t done much sculling in recent races they have a strong squad who should be able to put in a good result in the quad. Last year they finished 5th in the J15G 8s at National Schools and also won the WJ16 4+ at Hampton Head, which if they can translate into sculling ability puts them in a very good place for the win this weekend. As with the rest of the crews entered in this category they will know the tideway, being their home water.
Also racing are Barn Elms and Twickenham RC, while I can’t find any information on these particular crews they both have experience of the Tideway which will be useful for this race, although without any results it’s difficult to predict their speed.
My prediction for the win is Putney High.
