Hammersmith Head 2019 – Women’s Junior 18 Quadruple Sculls

As spring draws ever nearer, the racing season is getting under way in the much improved weather. With big races fast approaching such as School’s Head of the River and National Scullery, any racing opportunity during the lead up is highly anticipated by those competing. Due to a cold, windy and icy windy winter it seems many clubs have had events cancelled or have been competing less, therefore, providing less results to make our predictions.

The crews competing on Saturday are all of high standard, regularly producing outstanding results. At the 2017 head (2018 was cancelled) St Paul’s Girls School Boat Club placed first and were the fasted crew of the day. I’m sure they will be aiming to attain these same standards to regain their title. Crews such as Tideway Scullers School, Shiplake College Boat Club and Latymer Upper School Boat Club will all provide tough competition for the race. Each of these three crews compete regularly against each other and are constantly fighting for the top position. At this stage it is difficult to predict who will come out on top but I would be surprised if these crews weren’t seen in at least the top 5.

Royal Shrewsbury School Boat Club have been busy competing at more local events this past academic year, producing some of their best results at Wycliffe Head before Christmas. Kingston Grammar School Boat Club have also been training hard with many private races and friendly fixtures against local rivals in order to boost racing experience. For both quads this weekend should be a good chance to race and compare themselves to other crews ahead of the bigger races.

Predictions:

1st – St Paul’s Girls School

2nd – Latymer Upper School

3rd – Tideway Sculler or Shiplake College
