*Hammersmith Head has been cancelled, this does not stop our coverage*
Kingston RC
Kingston put out a WJ15 4x+ at the recent Hampton Head where they came 5th, however, with the registered surnames not matching up we cannot be sure whether these will be new or experienced crews. Kingston also came 3rd at National Schools’ Regatta in the WJ14 8x+ last summer, suggesting a strong sculling history. That being said, we will probably see at least one of the two Kingston crews entered in this category to put down a fast time.
Marlow RC
We see a similar situation with this Marlow crew as with the Kingston crews. Marlow came 4th at Hampton Head, beating Kingston by just 3 seconds, but the surnames give us little indication as to whether this weekend will see the same crew combination.
Godolphin & Latymer School BC
We saw Godolphin & Latymer place 5th at Quintin Head last month, suggesting a strong squad with experience of racing and training on the Tideway, however, could their skills lie primarily in sweeping? It will be interesting to see if they can produce similar results in a sculling event.
Predictions
Given the results of the recent heads, I think we can expect to see Marlow come in first, very closely followed by either one of the Kingston crews. With limited background on the other crews, I think a number of crews could be challenging for 3rd place, however, the Godolphin & Latymer crew shouldn’t be overlooked.
