This year Hammersmith Head will take place on Sunday the 26th of February. The approximately 4.4km course runs from Chiswick bridge to Hammersmith bridge. The women’s J16 Eights category has 7 entries from 5 different clubs. This Head is another great opportunity for the J16s to gain valuable Tideway experience and insight before the schools head in March.
Lady Eleanor Holles Boat Club
Lady Eleanor Holles has entered two crews in this category demonstrating the depth of their J16 Squad. Having recently placed 4th and 8th at Quintin Head in the WJ16 8+, the outcome for LEH this weekend looks promising however; they have only raced in the eight once so far this season so there aren’t many previous telling results. Notably, they also came 4th in the J15 8+ at the National Schools’ Regatta in 2022.
Latymer Upper School Boat Club
Latymer Upper School has also entered two crews into this category showing the scope and vastness of their squad. They recently placed an encouraging 5th at Quintin Head alongside a 5th and 6th at Wallingford Head of the River in the WJ16 8+ category. These are both strong results for the start of the head season and I expect them to do well on Sunday.
Other crews entered for this event are Twickenham Rowing club who placed 4th at Hampton small boats head wJ16 4x-, Barn Elms Rowing club, who I can’t find any recent racing results from and Sydenham High School who placed 10th at the recent Quintin head.
Predictions
I predict that Lady Eleanor Holles will win this event, Latymer Upper School will place second and Twickenham will come 3rd.
