Hammersmith Head 2025 – Women’s Junior 18 Eights Preview

Held between Chiswick and Hammersmith Bridge, Hammersmith Head welcomes hundreds of rowers in an exhilarating race along the Tideway as a test of both technique and strength. Featuring a range of categories that include eights, quads, and fours – this race is a wonderful opportunity for clubs to show the breadth of their abilities. One of the standout events is the Women’s Junior 18 eights, where top junior crews go head-to-head in a fiercely competitive field, delivering thrilling and high-caliber racing that promises to make for an exciting watch.

Shiplake College Boat Club

After winning the Women’s Junior 18 category at Quintin Head just a few weeks earlier, Shiplake College Boat Club are the definite favourites to take home the gold at Hammersmith Head. They have had a very impressive season and their women’s crew is a force to look out for.

Henley Rowing Club

Although their Women’s Junior 18 boat did not race at Quintin Head, Henley Rowing Club are historically a very fierce competitor. Their women’s crew last year had an exceptional season under the experienced coaching of Leon Redman and I am sure this year will be no exception. After their loss against Shiplake Boat Club during the Prince Philip Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta this summer, I am sure Henley Rowing Club will be back looking for revenge and I am excited to see how the race plays out over a longer course.

Great Marlow School Boat Club

Although Great Marlow School Boat Club finished seven seconds behind Shiplake Rowing Club at Quintin Head, they have otherwise had a very strong head season this year. I have no doubt they will be pushing for a closer result against Shiplake Rowing Club and are definite contenders for gold/silver.

Prediction

Shiplake Rowing Club’s women’s eight this season has been incredibly strong so far this year and after their brilliant performance at Quintin Head, they are the definite favourites for gold. However, Great Marlow School Boat Club and Henley Rowing Club are both strong competitors and it will be interesting to see how they fare not only against each other but against Shiplake Rowing Club. It promises to be a fast-paced race and I am excited to see who ends up on top.
