So this article, and the three proceeding it, are actually extra articles that I’m doing due to the high demand for them (aren’t I nice to you). But as much as I would like to take my time analysing what looks to be an extremely competitive draw, I am pressed for time, so I will have to be brief, and I will limit myself to writing about what I believe to be the top three crews in contention for the win. The same goes for all the other Hampton previews that I am yet to write.
Latymer Upper – Parkinson/Yates
This pair came second at the Hampton SBH, just missing out on the top spot to a pair from Canford, so will be looking to make a statement in their absence. This is backed up by a strong 7th place finish at the early ID trials last November and 3rd place at the Pairs’ Head of the River.
Hampton – Long/Zahn
This pair have yet to be seen at any major open events together, although a pair under the name of Long did win the J17 2- category at the Hampton SBH. They finished a very impressive 3rd place at the Early ID trials, around 15 seconds quicker than their competition from Latymer, and will have the home advantage, expect a quick time.
Sir William Borlase GS – Spicer/Manthorpe
This will be their first race of 2015 after the cancellation of the Thames Valley Trial Head; however a 12th place finish at Early ID would put them in strong contention for a good place here.
To summarise, I believe the Hampton duo will take the top spot, with Latymer in second and Borlase in third.
