This weekend is the first opportunity of the year for experienced quads to step up and lay down a marker for the rest of the season. With GB trials just under a month away this gruelling 3000 metre course will give the trialists a good test for the 5000m course they will do in February.
Henley Rowing Club – O’Connor
Henley Rowing Club always being known for their multiple crews in the Fawley Challenge Cup at their royal regatta, going into this event with some stand out wins this season already. This crew has a lot of potential of winning this event on Saturday, with 3 of 4 athletes in this crew was part of winning Youth coxed quads at Head of the Charles back in October. Another stand out win for this crew was Ed Roy and Seth O’Connor who attended Junior Worlds last season.
Tideway Scullers School – Woolmer
This Tideway crew has had huge amounts of success last season with dominating the J16 category at national events. This shows as them winning National Schools, Junior champs, and winning the GB vs France match in this same crew. With most of this crew being J17, they have some tough competition ahead of them this Saturday
Lea Rowing Club – Ferraro
As known for their bright orange kit, Lea will be easy to spot down the Thames this weekend. This crew has had recent GB junior successes, as Luca Ferraro racing in the World Rowing Junior Championships in the double, in Coupe and recently getting a 3rd place in GB junior trials. As well as, Sam and Marlow who got a bronze at national schools, silver at junior champs and a win in the GB vs France match in the double.
Prediction
J18 is a very competitive age group and this will show in some close racing on Saturday, having seen the sheer amount successes through the 3 crews this what I would expect this weekend:
1st – Henley RC
2nd – Tideway Scullers School
3rd – Lea RC
