After numerous races have been cancelled recently due to land, water, and weather conditions, rowers up and down the country will be enjoying this slightly warmer weather and the opportunity to compete more. The Hampton Head course of around 3000m is something to look forward to, and with thirty-three WJ18 doubles, the race is sure to be exciting.
Henley Rowing Club
The first of this category to power down the course on Saturday will be Wieser and Hall. They will be aiming to keep away from the Sir William Perkins’s School RC crew who follow them, especially after placing second behind them at Reading Small Boats Head with a penalty. At the Wallingford Long Distance Sculls, Wieser placed second and Hall sixth in singles. These girls are sure to combine into a strong double and it will be at the front of their mind to rectify their performance at Reading SBH.
Sir William Perkins’s School Rowing Club
Second in the draw is Thornton and Patient, who will be attempting to overtake the crew ahead of them. Their win at Reading Small Boats Head back in October will have given them the confidence to do well. Having spent time training at Dorney Lake recently, the crew from Sir William Perkins’s School Rowing Club will be well prepared, and it will be no surprise to see them do well this weekend.
Lea Rowing Club
With three entries from Lea Rowing Club, the club is preparing for an impressive set of results. The first of these three, Hughes, placed fourth in the WJ18 1x at Wallingford LDS, which will form a strong double. The second of the three Lea RC crews (Guetin) won the WJ18 2x at the same event, so will be keeping an eye on previous competitors such as those from Henley RC.
My predictions
1st – Henley Rowing Club; Hall (126)
2nd – Sir William Perkins’s School Rowing Club; Patient (127)
3rd – Lea Rowing Club; Guetin (141)
