A slightly smaller entry compared to the WJ16 2x, but the standard of competition is no means lower with some great crews entered here. For many of them this will be the first major race in a pair, so its going to be exciting to see how the results show up.
Lady Eleanor Holles
LEH have three pairs entered here and have a great pedigree in junior women’s rowing. Despite this, this age group haven’t quite been as successful as previous years; with their WJ15 eight winning the B final at national schools, a disappointing result considering they finished 3rd at the schools head earlier in the year. This does not reflect their potential small boat abilities however, and on home water these 3 crews will be looking to redeem themselves.
Sir William Perkins
With the most entries in this category it is clear that SWP are keen to show they have the most girls confident in the pairs, and this is a strong showing is great for early in the season. SWP put in a fantastic result at national schools regatta last year, winning silver in the WJ15 8+ and will be looking to build on this success this weekend.
Emanuel School
Emanuel really showed their strength in the small boats at the pairs head earlier this season and with Thomas; the winner of the WJ16 2x entered here as their sole entry, it will be interesting to see if this crew can convert their sculling abilities into the pair. If so, they should be in with a good shot for the win.
Also to mention is Tideway Scullers who have put in some decent results in both small and crew boats this season, and if this is their fastest combination may be able to contend for the win. Otherwise, it looks to be a battle between the Emanuel and the top SWP boats.
