Hampton SBH – WJ16 2x

A huge and competitive field here, its going to be a great battle for the win and an good opportunity to see who’s shaping up to be the fastest doubles this early in the season.

Latymer Upper School

Latymer dominated last season in the WJ15 8+ winning both nationals schools and the schools head, and while they weren’t as successsful in the sculling boats their squad as a whole for this age group is very strong. This looks to be their fastest double, and after finishing 4th at NSR in the WJ15 4x+ and gaining silver at JIRR in the same boat class, with the clubs who beat them not competing this weekend, this boat will be definitely looking to clench the win here.

Headington School

Chasing Latymer hard will be Headington, another powerhouse in women’s rowing. They had some good results last season, winning bronze in the WJ15 8+ at NSR and reaching the final of the quads. As with Latymer it will be interesting to see if they can translate this success in the bigger boats into a double, and if so the two Headington doubles entered here should be competitive in this category.

Sir William Perkins

SWP have a large entry here and after their silver in the WJ15 8+ at national schools will be looking to gain an edge over Headington and Latymer in the smaller boats. With a good course and a solid race the top boat here may be in contention for the win.

Other crews to watch out for will be Emanuel, whose top double who won the pairs head seem to be entered in a pair, but after some decent results last year another boat from the school may be able to put in a good result, Tideway Scullers who had a good quad last year in the WJ15 age group finishing 5th at NSR, and LEH who didn’t quite reach the standard of the other big rowing schools in the crew  boats last season but may be able to put in some  better results  in the smaller boats.

My prediction for the win is Latymer  – Lloyd.
